Police blocks Campus Front’s protest march to Amrita Medical College, Kochi

Kochi: Campus Front of India activists staged a protest march to controversial Amrita Medical College here against its stubborn attitude in self financing medical admissions ignoring government directions and by passing all rules and regulations out forward by the University Grants Commission.
Ajmal Ismail, state president of Campus Front warned the authorities to stop its way ward activities or to face the consequences. He was inaugurating the protest march.
Amrita Medical College authorities have made education a business. They have denied reservation for backward classes. They are imposing high fees from the students. Amrita University which has opposed the decision of state government to avail 50 percent of the seats in the name of UGC guidelines, is violating the guidelines of the same regarding community reservation, he alleged. Other deemed universities used to give the details of reservation patterns in its prospectus, where as Amrita’s prospectus kept mum on the issue, he added.
Police stopped the march at the entrance of the college.
M M Ashkar, district president of Campus Front, P A Najeed, district secretary, Afkar Misaj, Alsad and Muhammed, district committee members led the protest march.
Last week Campus Front of India activists had gheraoed the principal of Jubily Mission Medical College in protest against the unjust attitude of Inter Church Council regarding the issue of medical seat distribution and fee fixation.
Campus Front is on the war path in the state against the state policy of appeasing self financing college managements regarding the issue of medical and engineering admissions.
